The sculpture of a Deep Space Network radio receiver - made out of powder-coated aluminium - is based on the principle of paper-folding modelling. The five accompanying images are the remnants of the production - or the sculpture's origin - which also function as a blue-print or guide lines for the eventual reproduction of the antenna.

However, portions of the information for making a perfect copy have been lost in the process. DSN receivers are used by SETI, amongs others, to search for extra-terrestrial life in addition to collecting other data from outer space. The sculptural version is also researching it's origins, though in a somewhat more restricted way.
